Tery's BIO
Tery began playing guitar and piano at the age of seven.Picking out
melodies and tunes of the day soon became his favorite pastime. It was
common practice for Radio Stations to play a mix of Pop, Rock, Blues and
Jazz so his ear developed quickly. He was picked to sing in a city wide
honor chorus at the age of ten.
In Junior High he signed up for a guitar class. The instructor was
actually a piano player so, a handful of people would play in a
stairwell sharing their knowledge with each other and jammin'. When the
head of the music department heard him play he was asked to play in Pep
Band. He met a classmate who played and was way into the Blues, this was
pre S.R.V., so it was very intriguing to him that this kid loved the
Blues so much.
When he signed up for an advanced music theory class in High School, his
teacher asked him about teaching some guitar classes. He declined several
times until the Studio owner Don Friedman personally asked him, with
the offer of, "I'll get you playing some serious Equipment". There he met
and studied with Joff Jones and Rick Van Patten. He continued teaching
when Buddy Rogers Music took over Don's. When they asked him about a good
drum instructor he recommended Pete Davidson.
Player's Music was founded by Tery & Pete and was the first in the
Cincinnati area with fully equipped performance studio's. They began
teaching group lessons mixing it up with their students and parents. The
Monday Night Jam attracted students, semi-pro's and regional musicians,
nobody winced at the three dollar cover...It paid for the BBQ in the
parking lot. After five years the building was grazed to make way for
City Development, Tery then started teaching out of his home studio and
Moeller Music.
Playing in local and regional acts landed him Onstage or in the Studio
with many great artist. He played in his dance band Joyride, and had his
trio Tery Metcalf Project. Tery played fill-in and pick-up gigs with Big
in Iowa, Legend, Billy Rose, The Original Goldenaires and Billy
Hamilton. He was the guitarist for Katrina Williams, a great songwriter
who writes for, The Temptations, Chante Moore and Brian McKnight. Tery
has recorded in Atlanta, Cincinnati and Nashville along side of Kasey
Williams, Lonnie Mack, Johnny Neel, Jimmy D. Rogers, Greg "Lumpy" Day,
Rick Stone and The Reverend Billy Rose. When his playing was heard by the
founder of Alligator Reco rds Bruce Iquillar he had this to say "NICE"!
Tery is now recording and playing regional shows with his band.He has
garnered the attention and support from his sponsors, musicians and
songwriters. His Song "Welcome to the Blues" has created a buzz and his
